Wonderful and Original- Colonial Virginia 4 Dollar Note . This one has the date of ratification date of 1776 . It's in circulated condition and I like it better that way , because that let's us know it was actually used during the Revolutionary War, maybe even by a Continental Soldier. The condition is quite nice for an almost 250 year old note. These notes were hand signed by Agents Richard Morris and George Seaton . The smaller denominations were only signed by one agent. Has the warning to counterfeiters on the lower left of the obverse . They would hang counterfeiters . Also, has the Virginia coat of arms on the upper left obverse . I like the fact that they are using it as to the value of 4 Spanish milled dollars. Spanish silver and gold was used alot in Colonial times, even in Civil War times. Reverse is blank , which is correct for this particular note. Please note the blue hairy fibers in the paper. This was used to combat counterfeiting, as it was a huge problem in Colonial times. If I'm not mistaken, this type of paper was invented by Benjamin Franklin. Along with several other things to combat counterfeiting such as lamp black ink , and leaf printing, etc . Benjamin Franklin owned a printing company and printed many state notes , but this was not one of them . But his techniques were used by other printers . What a great piece of history that would look awesome in anyone's collection.
