Very nice Early Militia Buckle 1850s era. This example was dug at Shiloh Battlefield on private land. I have had many of these type Buckles in my Confederate Buckle collection over the years, as I displayed them with my Confederate Buckles , because I have always considered them to be Secondary Confederate Buckles, because so many southern soldiers used them. There were alot of these early Militia Buckles recovered from Shiloh and Fort Donelson, and Corinth. Early War sites. Many Confederate soldiers wore these in the early part of the war. And yes some Federal soldiers wore them too . The condition is excellent with no bends or repairs. Still has some of its original body curve. Has a gorgeous patina and very good detail.
