Beautiful Confederate WMI coat size 19mm Button. The WMI stands for Western Military Institute which started off in Kentucky and Later moved to Nashville Tennessee. Becoming the Nashville Military Institute, if I remember correctly. Many Confederate officers graduated from the school. Collectors associate this button with Confederate Kentucky and Tennessee troops as they are found in both. I personally dug this one and it came out of a documented 7th Tennessee Cavalry Camp in north Mississippi around 20 years ago. This was one of General Nathan Bedford Forrest's regiments that fought at Brice's Crossroads. Undoubtedly, one of the officers was wearing this button. The condition of this button is really pretty as you can see in the pictures. Has the correct and rare backmark of " Runyon and Keene Georgetown KY " . Has a good amount of gold gilt remaining on the face, that really brings out the details. Don't miss this rare button, you don't see them for sale very often. And one with rock solid provenance !
