U S Model 1851 Pattern Eagle Buckle. Made of stamped brass was most likely employed as a Militia or Cadet Buckle . Kerksis states in his book , that they were from the early 1850s . However, I believe this actual style was from the 1870s and into the early 1900s . Now with that said , the Eagle motif was adopted in 1851 and these are occasionally found in civil war camps . I really believe they are post war . Still a cool very inexpensive dug buckle.
