Really cool Star hat pin that was dug in a Texas Camp close to Manassas Virginia. It is made of thin stamped brass with silver gilt. The silver gilt is just only left in all the right places on the face, enough to highlight the motif device. The back has quite a bit of the silver gilt remaining. On the back, there is a solder spot in the center that once held the attachment pins. The star is a false beveled star much like the star on the Southern Confederacy buttons, which I have included a picture of one for reference. It is 1-1/8" in diameter. This could have possibly been used as a Texas Bridle Rosette, but I think it is more likely a hat pin, due to the thin gauge brass. Great relic to add to anyone's Civil War collection!!!
