This is a Rare solid cast brass hat letter "D"
You don't see this version of hat letters very often. It is of standard size, 7/8" , which is a little smaller than the standard size Union stamped brass hat letter, which is 1" . These are believed to be of Confederate Manufacture. The condition is excellent, with a slick dug patina. This example was dug near Fredericksburg VA. This is one of the best of this rare little jewel.
