What a cool piece that you just don't see for sale these days. It's a Dug Leech and Rigdon Artillery Short Sword, that was dug by a friend of mine at Shiloh Battlefield on private land with permission. This sword is the one that would have had a C and S , cast into the brass guard. I remember the day it was dug. I was talking on the phone , while they were out hunting that day , to another friend of mine, who was hunting together with him , and he was telling me about all the cool relics, that they both finding . I was wishing I was out there hunting with them. This was found near a Confederate Artillery Battery position they found on private land. The sword is in excellent dug condition, with no bends and has been professionally stabilized through electrolysis, and is strong and stable. Blade is still surprisingly sharp for a dug blade. The blade is full length except for the very small portion of the tip , about (1/2"), that that is missing in action. The blade is measuring around 17" . The full blade would have been 17-1/2" . The entire length of the sword would have been a massive 23" , from the end of the Hilt, to the blade tip . This sword still has its tang intact, but is missing the brass Hilt / handle. I have pictured this sword with a nondug Leech and Rigdon, to show what it would have looked like originally. THIS LISTING IS FOR THE EXCAVATED SWORD ONLY . This is a solid and strong example of a dug Leech and Rigdon Artillery Sword, with great provenance. Don't miss this rare opportunity to get a dug one, they don't come up for sale hardly ever.
