Cool relic!!! This is a Regulation drumstick holder belt plate. These were on the drum sling and held the drumsticks while not in use. Although this is a US Regulation plate , it was still used by both sides, Union and Confederate during the war . This one is missing the two drumstick barrels and the hooks on the back, as usual. Nice green patina. I have a complete non dug example and a period photo shown in the pictures to show what they looked like and how they were used. I think this one was dug near Shiloh.
