What a cool piece of history. This is an early battlefield find from Chickamauga , on private land . Looks to have been hit by arillery shrapnel in two places. Looks like one piece sheared the loading lever off at the base and the the other ripped the grip and the trigger guard all the way off . You can see in the pictures where it tore the brass frame and the loading lever . If this one could talk , it would have a violent story to tell I think. This relic has been professionally cleaned and coated and is in very stable condition. Metal is good and solid. The hammer moves freely. Great piece for anyone's Civil War collection.
